Well what do you know?
Last week I had my wing mirror smashed by a oncoming car on my side of the road..
To cut a long story short the broken mirror glass was ordered from mercedes and after taking my reg they told me the following..
1. My car has the auto dimming glass (which as you know is expensive)..
2. My car has the Powerfold mirrors????
To answer these points:
1. It turns out that my car does NOT have the auto dim mirror.. I have installed what I was given and yes it does auto dim but the original one was definately NOT the auto dim veriety. The mirror on the passenger door is standard and doesn't auto dim... Incidentally you can tell the auto dim sort just by looking.. If it has a black plastic surround to the mirror glass then it IS the auto dim sort..
If not then it isn't.
If the auto dim mirrors were not so damned expensive, I would consider replaceing the passenger side, but I cannot justify £290 + VAT for a mirror !!
On the subject of the replacement mirror.. A Big thank you to Ian B Walker (off this forum) for his expertise and invaluable help in replaceing the broken parts.. As usual he was extremely helpful (actually he did all the work, I just watched)..
2. Despite a quite heated "chat" with the guy at the mercedes dealership my car does NOT have Powerfold mirrors. On this I am 100% certain.
My point is that to me it looks like the Data they have on your car is not always 100% accurate!
Makes me wonder what other little points are also incorrect..
I welcome any thoughts and comments
