Hi All

I have had my E200 for a couple of months now with no problems although it is due for a service which I will arrange soon. My problem is this: I slowed and went into a right hand lane to take a right turn recently and when there was a space in the traffic I accelerated to go right but noticed a distinct "chugging" noise and feeling with a loss of acceleration. I was able to turn right but felt that I could not do it fast if I wanted to. There was no light on the dashboard. The road I drove into was quiet so I was able to experiment and the "chugging" feel and noise did not go away even if I raised the revs. I parked the car and switched off then tried again and there were no more problems, I have driven many miles since and have not experienced this again. I would appreciate any help and advice about this. Thanks

I think the only thing to make a chugging noise and lose power is that it stopped firing on all cylinders. you do not mention petrol / deisel. check electrics around coils and plugs.

Does the E200 (W124?) have an ECU safe mode?
Symptoms sound very familiar to my W210 when that panicked. The switch off/on and its ok again, is a good indication. It won't revert back until the fault is detected again so if the fault is intermittent, it will behave normally and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. Assuming I'm right, it will have logged the fault so you can get it interrogated and find out what it thought the problem was.

Thank you for your reply and advice Malcolm and sorry I did not mention it but the car runs on petrol. I will make sure to check all electrics around coils and plugs.

Thank you Jberks for your reply and advice, I hate to admit that I am completely useless with anything mechanical and rely on my local garage to sort things out. I suppose the fact that this fault has been "logged" it means that I will need to use a Mercedes dealer to get it interrogated? Groan!

You can use any garage to read the codes and problem, you do not have to use MB, Being petrol could be a coil block.
