Hi , Please help if you can

The car - 2005 (209) CLK 220 cdi

Handsfree bluetooth fitted (OEM)

The problem - So whilst driving this morning I noticed the bluetooth hadn't automatically connected my phone to the car , So i turned my phone off and turned it on again , And then it connected to the bluetooth and I saw the signal strength appear on the audio 20 display , Then I wanted to make a call so I pressed the "TEL" button on the audio 20 . Instead of getting the last number dialled on the screen i got a message "LOW VOLTAGE" on the audio 20 lcd display , thats strange I thought , I then proceeded to check thru the instrument cluster menus to see if any such warning came up on there , Nothing !!! So then I'm thinking the audio 20 is only a radio / cd / phone and can't have any intelligence on the cars running systems ....can it ?

Any ideas ?

Low voltage means that the radio is only getting low voltage!!

Check your alternator output with the engine running, after a while, the radio will turn off if the voltage dont increase!!

12 volts is not a standard rate, the holding voltage of a battery is 12.55 volts, with the engine runnng up to 13.50-14.00 volts, no CAN signals, what do you expect,

I am not sure on this, also not sure if no CAN would cause it to turn off, I will come back to it

thanks malcolm, much appreciated because I'm wondering if some sort of sensing circuit in the Audio 20 is broken

can't find anything on Google

The connections on the back of the Audio20 are standard ISO within the quadlock connector. So you will need a 12V supply with about a 2amp rating to be safe.

The Audio20 does talk to the car on the CANBUS. The phone side of things is handled by the phone controller and the AUdio20 simply talks to this on the fibre bus.

If it displays this message when on the bench then you can be pretty sure its a fault with the Audio20 itself. These are easily replaced as they often pop up on ebay for very little money.

These units can run without CAN for a while. They rely on an ignition source to stay on for longer than 30 minutes.

yes it has 12V at 2 Amps

it works OK for about 20 seconds after power on, the message then comes up and unit turns itself off

are you saying that it should work on the bench without CAN for about 30min please??

I think that it would,,2 amps seems a bit high if the loudspeakers are not plugged in
