The other day I accelerated hard while pulling out of a difficult junction, something that I do not normally do. I put my foot flat on the floor (against the kickdown button but not pressing it) and left it there. my car accelerated right up to the red line and then refused to change gear, after a few seconds I backed off and it changed up. Subsequently I lost at least 1 cylinder. I drove on for about 10 mins until a suitable stop was found and switched off while I tried to locate a local garage. When I restarted the engine it was fine and has been since... As a point of note I have recently had my car serviced at an indie who 'reset' the gearbox. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it but I have noticed that now the gearchange sometimes can take 2 seconds when a few revs are on ie about 4,000. It seems to come out of gear, pause and then engage the new gear. This may be completely unrelated and perfectly normal of course but both issues are causing me some concern.

Any ideas anyone?

PS please feel free to move this post to a tech area but I wasn't sure whether to post in electronics or engine as I don't know the cause!!!

This is so hard on a 1 off fault, I would just wait and see if it does it again, many car do these odd things, and never repeat the fault

if you feel you need to know you could have the codes read by a mb indie if you have one in your area

Doesn't sound much like a problem really.. I think it's just one of those things.. every computer will have a glitch sometime or another.

But i wouldn't say it's done any damage or even the start to any damage, I think it is the way it's meant to run and in regards to the first comment about it hitting redline and not changing gear.. i've had that on a automatic corsa once.. car is still in the family going 4yrs strong and I had that issue say a year or two ago.. never caused a problem since though :) I'd say you're ok.
