Hi guys and gals!

I have a LHD 1992 W124 230TE with 190 000 km on the clock and had the front brake pads changed about 2 months ago. A couple of weeks later I noticed a noise every time I brake quite firmly although it appears only when the car is rolling out below about 30 mph so on the motorway I don't have any problems. The sound is a 'woo-woo-woo' kind and it seems to be coming from the front left hand (offside) wheel area.

A couple of visits to the local garage and test drives with the resident mechanics haven't resulted in any joy... Help!

Thanx.

Demy

Warped disc, misfitted pad, dirty calipers, sticking piston or wheel bearing. Most likely warped disc or the disc has a huge step in it (because it's worn) and the pad hasn't bedded in yet

You need a better mechanic. Finding noises under braking isn't rocket science

Thanks

Thanks Nick,

One can safely say that I have decided to change my mechanic. I originally thought that it was the disc too but he didn't want to know.

Once again, thanks!

Hi Demy, I'd agree with Nick and put my money on a sticking piston in the caliper. If you can jack the car up it's not too difficult to remove the pads, swing the caliper down and try levering the pistons in. If they wont then thats your problem.

Good luck Nick in getting away with the word Warped disc, I got hammered in the other brake thread for using that word.
