Strange noise when driving

Hi im new here and wanted to ask if any one knew.
i took my 2005 c class cdi for its regular service and told mechanics of strange noise while driving from wheels as though a bearing was shot like a humming grating noise when driving and clearer and heavier when applyin breaks and coming to a halt.

They said bearings were absolutely fine and nothing wrong and said its noise coming from cheap budget tyres a lot of people as this and its just noise from cheap budget tyres.

Is this true?

could it be a worn or breaking up abs ring on the hub? ive had this with other cars before . Never done one on a merc though sorry .Some one on here will know so dont worry ;) Could also be the rear handbrake shoes beacuse they are hidden and a lot of mechanics are not used to em because they are like drum brakes in the rear disks.

You must be able to jack the front of the car and spin the wheels to hear what it is

Cheaper tyres do make more noise on the whole - a tread thing I guess. May be silly but is the pressure OK, and even, or do you have a stone(s) in the tread? This drives me up the wall!!!!!

just i had a few customwes and asked if i had a wheel bearing gone.

But when i had it serviced by merc authorised specialist gaeage tey said bearings fine just cheap budget tyres that make the noise.

I supose i just got to go with that for now may be i will know more after mot in 2 weeks
