Could be many things I have only had my ML for three months so I’m still on a steep learning curve regarding fault diagnosis I’ve not been able to obtain a work shop manual yet but I’ll have a go at some possibilities like front drive shaft CV joints if it has them, which all can be checked by jacking front wheel up with left and right full lock applied and listening for clicking noise and clonking when wheel is spinning you could check the drive shafts for play both end, maybe power steering belt tension. Other thing would show up on your MOT test wheel bearings, steering ball joints which you could check whilst you have the wheels up.
You say grumbeling noise would there be any vibration associated with this
How many miles and how long since your last mot,
How long has it been going on is it getting worse
Does noise deviate between left and right turns whith and without breakes

Thanks for the reply kebo57 there is no vibration with it. in all honesty ive only had the car for two weeks its just had mot so i reckon they would have pulled it on the cv or ball joints. i bought it from a dealer when i test drove the car everything was fine then i heard this noise the dealer told me it was because of the four wheel drive engaging. not knowing nothing about four wheel drive i couldnt argue at the time but im sure its not right i dont think a car would be launched with that unless its afour wheel drive thing. its got warranty with the car so i will take it back to get it sorted but wanted to find out if this is normal first cheerz any more help would be great

The motor is always in four wheel drive whether in high our low range you might try engaging low range before you take it back then if it doesn't you’ve got another thing that he can fix, my motor also had warranty on the engine & gear box as long as it didn’t go wrong

It's got four-wheel drive. There will always be some slip going on, particularly at full lock when the rear tyres will tend to push the fronts along in a straight line. I'd think big wheels & tyres would exacerbate it

I think it will be like all modern four wheel drives and will have a central diff that will take care of all aspects of wind up allowing front and rear props to rotate at different speeds when turning in tight circles Anyway theres an ML parked at my front door with 155,000k on the clock that's not doing it

So you recon that cypher doesn't have a problem the dealer says it was because of the four wheel drive engaging. when would the four wheel drive not be engaging maybe your right about
"Any good if I come round and make it do it"
you usually are
I've never noticed it on mine, nothing untill absolute full lock when there is a noise but It sounds like a bay pass valve coming in to operation would that be a problem.
