Hi I am a new member and pls forgive me if I have posted in the wrong place. Just let me know where to repost if i have please. I own a A180 cdi. I got it in March 2008. I noticed from day one that if i go over a speed but something underneath the car gets hit and so i have to go really slowly. very strange for a brand new car. also if i go down a slope which then levels out the front of the car hits the road. Took the car in for it's first service and they mentioned that when they checked the under carriage they noticed that the subframe is damaged. The repair cost is about £2000. The service guy said we must have hit something really hard. Well I haven't. The car has never been in an accident and has only ever had general domestic use. There is no damage to the body of the car. I cannot understand how this could be possible from normal everyday use. Has anyone else had a problem like this??? or heard of this before. any advice on what i should say to mercedes??

As you appear to have hit something on a public road and it has cost £2000 to repair the damage, I would suggest that you speak to your insurance company, this would be classed as an accident and therefore they will pay for the repairs.. Ask the MB dealer for a written estimate and also their opinion of what may have caused the damage..

It seems a bit late but cars do get damaged in transit, especially when they are being shipped on and off transporters etc. I know a Fiat I bought years ago had a terrible vibration and it transpired the drive shaft was damaged in transit and was replaced. I know a friend had a Renault which got a dent when parking. The repair man said he had to replace the wing because of the previous damage and all the filler was coming out. Given that the car was bought new and had no accidents a rat was duly smelt and the car examined to find the whole side had been damaged due tot he car being dropped. So much for a new car. It took a solicitor to presuade the dealer to repalce the car.

It would seem with the underside after this time it is more likely to be put down to being accident damage but nevertheless a brief check would be in order. I would feel too have a good look as to how the subframe is damaged, marks or the direction of the damage might be a giveaway. For the small cost I would get someone to have a look underneath.

My 2001 CL-500 just been told by the dealer with subframe damage.

I don't have any accident, but got a ABC failure on the LCD screen couple days ago.
I took it to the dealer, they found control arm busing is bad and damaged the subframe.
Does this sound logical?

Any comments will be appreciate!

Hello and welcome, as I run the same suspension on my SL I must say that I have never heard of such a fault, and nothing listed to say this has ever happened.

Is the car at the correct height, where are you based

The rubber in the bushings would have to have worn completely away to cause damage to the subframe, this would have been extremely noisy and very noticeable.. Unless a bolt has come loose and worn the fixing hole..if so this could be repaired..

A look under the car would show what type of object caused the damage, any scraping marks could be caused by speed hups etc but if bent or kinked then possible damage from unloading
