Hi!

I have just got a 1998 C230K sport. I brimmed the tank up with 95 octane unleaded when I got the car so I could get home (the 98 ron pumps were out of order anyway), however, I just read that I should be using 98 ron.

I always used to use 98 Ron on my previous cars, however I never thought it was necessary, just was better for your car in terms of performance.

Am I doing any damage to the car by running it on the 95 or should I get to a garage right away and top it up with 98?

I just got the car and I dont want to ruin it already!!!!

Thanks in advance for your advice

KC

Welcome to the forum KC,,if your book states the 98 must be used, it will also say that 95 can be used but do not thrash the car when running on 95,, my book says use 95 but I can use 91 without pushing the car too hard

There is a fair range of auto adjustment on these things,,if the car does not pink when hard accelerating then should be OK

Hi Television!

First of all thanks! I have read the owners manual through now (just got home and skipped stright to the fuels section haha) and it does indeed say "Minimum 95 Octane fuels" with "85 - 91 octane to be used in emergency and do not drive at full throttle."

I still reckon I will use 98 Octane whenever I can, I was just really worried about it because, as I said, I have just got the car and I have always dreamed of owning a Mercedes, W202 shape and I didnt want to start off by doing something that might damage the car if you know what I mean.

This seems like a great forum and everyone seems to be really helpful and friendly - do you have many regional meets? I would love to get together with some like minded Mercedes owners and have a chat!

Hi, kc hix - you may rest assured you are in safe hands.

Malcolm knows his stuff, I also run my 202 on '95 no pinking, no problem.
I never push the car hard either, it would be heresy. Imagine, insulting your best friend!

Welcome, DoverSole

Television, I live in Wiltshire, I'll take a look in the meets section directly!

Hi DoverSole! Thanks for the piece of mind. I dont like to push the car too hard either, though it is good to know the power is there if you need it :)

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

No problem, anytime kc.

You may want to (perhaps) put one tankful of 98 RON in for say, every 3 of 95 RON. I only say this because I recently took a pal to Luton Airport in the 'C' (filled up with super unleaded b4 we set off). I got markedly better fuel consumption on the '98 RON and i'm sure it does the engine good once in a while, anyway.

Time to get some zzzzzzzzz's

regards, DoverSole

My C230K i ran on unleaded 95 RON for 2 years constantly, i then noticed on the filler cap it had to be super plus, I now use it all the time and the difference it made was very noticeable both performance and especially economy.
