Autodata give a workshop time of 0.8 hours per side. Balljoint price as per your dealer or if you can stomach a pattern part, one of the big supermarket factors can supply. (go with genuine is my advice on these).

Is that 210 or 211 model ????????

On 211 model the joint retails at £37.58 +VAT at a Merc main dealer.

It took me about two weeks to do it myself.

The parts aren't expensive from the dealers but the labour is.

I have quoted for a W210 chassis, as it should be one of these at 9/2002. You can get them out just by undoing the 2 nuts on each one. It is fiddly though! the brake backplate does its best to get in the way, and its a bit of a monkey puzzle to wiggle them out. Pattern parts are often too long on one of the threaded sticks to get them back in without further dismantling, so go for genuine parts if you want less of a headache!!
