After engine start I can hear the suspension compressor over the noise of the engine, and after 30 seconds or so I get a vibration through front offside. After this occasionally hear compressor when travelling at low speeds.
Q is this normall, more importantly if not how expensive to put right.
This car is recently purchased and my first Merc. Cheers Tony

My S500 (2001) compressor failed a couple of months ago. The aftermarket warranty paid up ok but would not pay for the system check to diagnose the fault. Fixed at a MB main dealer (Greenoaks) and costs were as follows, all plus VAT:

Labour:
Diagnosis £118.20
Change compressor £147.75
Short test £29.55

Parts:
Compressor: £182.24
Line: £21.08

Total: £586.11 inc VAT

I had to pay the £118.20 plus VAT

Best Regards
Doug

Thanks Doug for that info, mine is going in on Saturday not to a Mercedes dealer. (not sure what the final bill will be but will keep you posted) As a matter of interest what allerted you to the fact that there was a problem with your compressor, was it the noise it was making? It seems odd to me that they can charge £118 just to diagnose there is a fault.

Regards Tony

Hi,

Compressor just went suddenly no previous noise or any hints. Got in the car one morning and message came up plus the car was sitting very low.
I drove it very slowly to the MB dealer and suggested that the compressor had gone. 118 pounds (plus VAT) later they confirmed what I had already told them !!!!

Suggest you contact your warranty company before you take the car in otherwise they may not pay up. I did end up paying the whole bill when I collected the car but the warranty company reimbursed me very quickly.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers
Doug
