suspension knocking on C240

Can any one help? got a knocking on my C240 203 model 2.6. Had the track control arms off but no lay in them. are there any common problems that I should look for. Think it's coming from the front and only when go over bumps or ruts

have you checked to see if there is any play in the ball joints ?...(because off the car,they can seem perfectly ok).......fairly simple to do..........jack up each front wheel in turn,grab the top and bottom of the tyre and push and pull,if not convinced,you can get a long lever and place it under the wheel,and get someone to look for movment(,but not from under the car) then lever the suspension up and down.
Also can be shock absorber mountings(mainly top ones) inspect to see if there is and damage or cracking to them,and if there is get professional opinion.can also check anti-roll bars bushes for excessive wear,they would knock when going over bumps if worn.
But can be hard sometimes to diagnose without looking at it,just some thoughts :grin:

Easiest option first - anti roll bar bushes. Cheap and easy to do. Balljoints I think are more likely to 'creak' than 'knock', but it's another option.
