Not about a Mercedes obviously but still an interesting one.
We currently have a 2018 1ltr hybrid swift (booster jet engine)
I’ve noticed that this engine has been dropped as of 2020 and only began production in 2017 thats 3 years and that engine has gone vanished! No longer available in any new Suzuki!
The only engine available in the new swift is a 1.2 non turbo with a mild hybrid system with around 8bhp.
I can’t find anything to suggest issues with that 1.0ltr engine and that the specifics are actually better than the 1.2!
Comparison 1.0ltr Swift:
Top speed: 121mph
0-60mph: 10.6
Power: 110bhp

1.2ltr Swift:
Top Speed: 113mph
0-60mph: 13.1
Power: 83bhp

this just seems odd considering the cars the same price, is this just a manufacturing cost saving maybe?
Mpg is actually better combined on the 1.0ltr being 65mpg and the 1.2 being 59mpg.

am I missing something here?

CAFE regs at a guess. Corporate Average Fuel Economy; carmakers are fined when the average mpg value across their global annual sales rises over a certain number. It’s actually the reason that mainstream carmakers adopted EVs in the first place; a Leaf used to cost Nissan about £3k to sell (as in, they list that much) but netted across the year, the 50k Leaves they’d sell would more than make up for it in CAFE reductions.

So, if they can standardise on a powertrain that brings the global sales mpg below the CAFE threshold, they’ll do it…
