I see in my manual that the anchor points for the tow bar are provided, so I can fit the bar easily myself (when I find one). But what about the electrics, is there a multiplug hiding somewhere or do I have to cut into the wiring for lights etc.?

Also I would like the removeable merc type, so if you have one that you never use I will but it. anywhere on the M4 corridor or Stafford to Dorset or Weston Super mud to surrey I can collect.

Have a look in your local yellow pages. As i said in the previous post the removable one i have is made by Bosal.

There is a stockist in Reading on 0800 0186922

For the £60 or so it cost to have one fitted its not something i would entertain doing myself as the risk of damaging the car or worse is too high

You can buy online from here

W210 Estate is already prewired for a tow bar, just reach up behind the bumper and pull down a 13 pin [yes...not 7 pin] socket. you get a converter to 7 pin from an MB dealer. The detachable ball coupling should have come with the car? I would not consider a bolt on tow bar, risky in terms of electrics as well. If the detachable part is missing try ebay. Its good for MB parts too.
