Hi All,

Just would like to share an issue that I have experienced lately. My SL320 had very vague steering and after having wheel alignment done twice and new tryes fitted. The car still followed every rut in the road and was a real pain to drive. I had all the bushes checked and replaced where necessary. But still the car wandered and had play in the steering. The damper was replaced and slightly improved but still the problem persisted. I was beginning to think that maybe the steering box was knackered. :(
Finally just by chance I checked the wheel bearing play, and yes you guessed it they were really loose. I have now adjusted them and lo and behold the car is a pleasure to drive once more and no longer follows all the ruts and camber of the road. Just goes to show always go back to basics even when experts have done all they can. Hope this helps out fellow Benz owners. Its also nice to contribute back to the forum. :p

Thanks for your useful posting, and we can pass it on. With electrics that I like the best its always start with basics, otherwise all the rest is pointless
