Guys

My newly aquired TE has no rear courtesy lights working at all. I could suspect bulbs if one or two were out, but all four don't work. If I understand correctly, they are controlled by the dashboard switch nearest to the steering wheel, but whatever position this is in, it makes no difference. I will be testing for bulbs just in case, but otherwise is the switch the likely culprit, do you think? If so, has anyone got one they want to part with?

Thanks.

Ok- had chance to investigate today. When I checked, all the rear courtesy lights have had their bulbs removed. On testing, this is because there is 12V at all the lights regardless of which position the dashboard switch is in! Am I right in thinking that this must be a fault with the switch? I tried the Haynes, but the wiring diagram doesnt even list the switch so I cant really test it, other than by substitution. Anyone know where there is a better wiring diagram?

Set about testing these lights today. Disconnecting the rear door switches has no effect at all, so it is probably the tailgate switch. Can anyone talk me through how to access it ?
Many thanks.

Thanks Star. Would the wire I am looking for be brown/grey like the other courtesy ones? I am going to drop the headliner and have a look.

I wouldn't. That's just making life difficult for yourself

If it is a wiring fault in the hinge them you have to drop the headliner. If it's in the tailgate locking mech you don't

Stripping the tailgate is a lot easier than getting at the wiring in the headlining. Trust me on this!

its quite easy to pull the rubber covering back to inspect for a broken wire. No need to drop headlining. :)

One switch is for the lights and the other for the close assist, they are micro switches, this is a switch the has a pressure plate to operate it, when pressed the change over on the contacts is instant,, the easy way to test is to put the bulb in and manually press the switch operating lever, if the light goes out then it is the adjustment of the switch so that it makes contact with the contact plate
