Technical info on 300SE

Hi,
I just got first time a 1992 mercedes 300SE I have no previus experiance with a mercedes.
I would like to find out :
1) Gear shifting from 1st to 2nd to 3rd is pretty noticble is it commun ?
2) I would like to service all oils which to use ? syntetic? semi syntetic ?
3) If there is a recommended mechanic shop in the south bay area California I will be very greatfull.
