TeleAtlas NavShop scam

I just bought a TeleAtlas CD (through a third party retailer) for my COMAND. It comes with a registration card, tempting you to register your product with TeleAtlas NavShop, with the promise of a free 64MB USB stick.

After going through the registration process, I received this message:

"As you know, we promised you a free USB stick with your purchase. Due to the overwhelming success of this action however, we can no longer provide you a free USB stick."

Yes, this message came after going through the registration process.

It goes on to offer a 10% discount on your next purchase, which might be of some use if you're planning to buy another disc; but otherwise, don't bother with TeleAtlas registration, they don't keep their promises.

As a Teleatlas reseller ourselves we have had no occurences of this with our customers. However, I would suggest that you contact the retailer who supplied the disk and ask them to honour the offer. You bought a disk from them, not Teleatlas so your contract is with the retailer. We would honour the USB offer ourselves if it happened to our customers.

As an aside, it might be worth you hanging on to the 10% discount offer as the new 2007 disks are due out on 11th September. You may be able to use that discount against one of those disks. I have to stress though I have not seen the terms and conditions of the offer they made to you. Worth checking though.

Had a similar problem when I ordered new disc with TMC from Teleatlas. I was promised a free disc of European country of my choice.
When I received the order, UK disc was not TMC. I complained and was told that the "special offer" of free disc did not apply to TMC! This is despite the fact that I had made my order very clear to the telesales guy.
Teleatlas did offer to replace with TMC but no free disc.
Learnt my lesson: confirm all orders by email so that there is a paper trail.
Did not even bother to take up the offer of USB stick

I read this with the registration form in front of me waiting to be completed. I had missed that the USB stick was only 64Mb. A quick check on line with one of my suppliers shows that they don't list anything below 128Mb and that cost under £5, so perhaps a discount for the future would be worth more.

A quick question for Alfie, I have both versions of the UK 2006 disk, with and without TMC, tmc version is off ebay and is on a black CD, is that correct or have I been conned? The disk is proving difficult to read in the car.

Mark.

It sounds like you have bought a copied disk which is defective.

There are a lot of copies available on eBay, all of them illegal, most of them sub standard and plenty that do not work at all. There are a few genuine disk on ebay which will work. Genuine disks have the Teleatlas logo on them, come in a sealed Teleatlas cases if new. If not seen a disk that is 'Black' that is genuine.

I suggest you contact the seller and point out that they are breaking the law by selling copied disks and that you wish for a full refund.

Genuine disks work far far better in COMAND than copies do. If a copy works at all it will be slower than a genuine disk and often has parts of the map data missing.

Please let us know on sales@comand.co.uk if you would like a quote or supply of any Teleatlas disk.

Once postage is added in, navshop.com are 10% more expensive than the retailer I used (bluespot) which makes it worth NOTHING.
