I am on my second E320cdi this one is late 53 plate and like the other one which was 52 plate has a Nokia 3510i in armrest in old fashioned wired in system with curly wire. Anybody talking to me on the phone complains of sounds like feedback and echoes which makes conversation nigh impossible. I had a similar problem in the first car. Can anybody throw some light on this?

There is an issue with some Nokia car kits where both mics are open at the same time (Handset and Handsfree kit). This gives the echo effect you have described.
There was a flash upgrade for the Noki 6310's but don't know about your phone.

I had my old nokia re-flashed at the local carphone warehouse repair centre. They have them in some of their city centre shops. Resolved a caller display problem I had.

A flash upgrade is something the service provider should be able to send you in the form of a media or text message... dont know how it works just that I had a problem with my nokia and the upgrade was done with a simple phone call to the provider (or was it to nokia) anyway was sorted in about five minutes.

Just give them a ring. Hope that helps.

I don't think they can flash the phone. The service provider can send the phone's settings via sms - so message centre numbers, WAP settings etc (there is a facility on the o2 website, put in your number and get an sms a few mins later), but I believe that the flash ram can only be done by plugging it in to a pc and probably put into a service mode.

Thanks for the information. 02 had no idea what I was talking about and I can find nothing on Nokia site to help. It appears an intermittent problem has anybody else experienced it?

Echoes and feedback can sometimes be resolved simply by turning down the kit's volume in the car. Any duplex system tries to cancel out the feedback but if its too loud you can overwhelm it.

I know I am going to sound stupid now. Do you mean just the volume through the Comand system and/on teering wheel or is there an adjustment on the kit itself?

Yes, just the command volume. Sounds daft, but feedback and echo is simply the Mic picking up the speaker noise. The fact that you've had it on 2 cars implies that there is no mechanical fault with the car kit, but something to do with the way you are using it. I can only say that both the basic nokia kit I had in the last car and the MB pre-wire kit I have in this one are fine, with both the 6310i I had and the 6230i I now have. So, I doubt it's a design fault.
Is there anything common to both - e.g. the phone?
(I assume its a 6310i not a 3510i)? If so, there are lots of people with them still (I'd still have mine if it hadn't been stolen) so it would be worth finding someone and testing their phone in your kit.

Yes it's a 6310i and the plug has been removed. It's something that I have experienced with both my E320's and both Nokia 6310i's and indeed when talking to my colleague from a land line or hand held mobile who has the same configuration the problem is also evident. I am beginning to think it's just an MB problem that cannot be resolved:(

As per my previous post the 6310i can open both mics (Car Kit & Phone). Nokia built a patch which was successful at curing this problem.
An independant phone dealer should be able to help you out.

I think you must be right I will turn it down although I then struggle to hear respondent. To answer your question two different e320 cdi's two different nokia 6310i's so i think it's down to user stupidity but not quite stupid enough to have left the aerial rubber plug in. It's really invaluable getting this feedback (excuse the pun:) ) as you would think you could have the volume as high as you would wish. Thanks for your help

Thanks... I know the 02 guy hadn't a clue what I was talking about and I have a thread running with Nokia at the moment ... awaiting their reply. My contract is with 02 direct so I am not sure whether CPW or Phones 4U or the like would want to help would they??

I would try an indie, I doubt that any of the big high street shops would have any idea at all, they appear only interested in selling new phones. I had a small company in North Wales flash 6 phones. I have a replacement 6310i which was already upgraded as part of the refurb.

You could ring 02 and ask them where they repair phones, though it may be a painful rtb facility. Also ring CPW etc and ask them if they have a local repair facility in your area. (Leeds city centre does so I suspect most cities do). and what they'd charge to flash a 6310i with the latest OS. There are also loads of phone repairers/ unblockers out there, just check your phone book. Most will be able to reflash. I never had that problem myself, mine was with it just refusing to display the caller name from time to time. But it could be a problem on a different batch.

Do you mean not displaying the name on the phone or the Comand system because my phone does that too
