Hi,

am a newbie here and this is my first post. i bought by 56 reg C220 CDI about a month back and since then have been hunting high and low for telephone prewire details.

i have the telephone box in the armrest with one widget at the end towards the dashboard that seems to be where the cradle would go. this is normally covered by a plastic cover.

is this what prewiring is about? are there any images on the internet? i have googled with no results.

secondly, my phone is an XDA Orbit and am searching for a cradle. havent found one yet.

any pointers will be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

Try a search for UHI (universal handy interface).

You need either a specific cradle for you phone, or else a bluetooth module, which goes in place of the cradle and then talks to the phone. It's a complicated / confused area, I'm afraid!

there won't be a cradle for the xda.
All cradles are supplied by the dealer. They can be picked up a fraction cheaper sometimes on ebay but thats about it. A normal cradle is £131, bluetooth £300 and £400 ish.
For the xda, you will need a bluetooth cradle. There are 2 - the cheaper one is a bluetooth interface and allows control from the wheel/stereo controls. The more expensive one is a phone in it's own right and takes over from your phone when connected. It can also take a sim card and act in it's own right.
Check for compatability though. I hear the xda can be tricky.

You have phone pre-wire. You can use the Bluetooth HFP cradle with the O2 XDA. It works well.

Price for the cradle is about £215 from me and others. Mercedes dealer will charge you more.

Hello everybody,
I just discovered your web site tonight and I must admit I found it very usefull. I recently bought a 06/2005 (W203) C230 from Japan and I have the same question. I do also have the "socket" inside the arm rest but do not know whether a specific phone actually connects to it or a phone cradle. I am really looking forward the Bluetooth HFP since you can change your mobile and still work with the car system wheres otherwise you have to change the cradle every time you change your mobile. Anyone knows any place where to look for the Bluetooth adaptor? Thanks a lot.

Afer an extensive search over the internet, I found out that you can connect the Mercedes Bluetooth Cradle (PART NO. B6 78 75 877), to the telephone pre-wired socket which is found in the arm rest compartment of your car. You can then "couple" your mobile with the car's audio system through Bluetooth. They can be bought in ebay for about 215 GBP, I think Mercedes is asking for 300 GBP.
Good luck.

You can also search part number A204 820 0535. The difference between the 2 products is that the latter Bluetooth cradle can accept a SIM card so you can make calls from your car without actually having the phone with you!

If you dont have the UHI connector in your centre armrest then you wont have phone pre-wire in which case no cradle at all will work!

You can have phone pre-wire retrofitted of course but its not cheap, circa £950 then you need to add a cradle at anything between £130 and £350!
