Telephone prewiring?

I have just bought a 56 plate C class, I am not sure if it has phone prewiring. I emailed mercedes benz and they say it is prewired. I also took it to the local merc dealer and they said it wasnt. The centre storage compartment only lifts up and I cant see anything obvious for something to plug into. It has an audio 20 radio and when you press the telephone button the display reads no phone on the radio and function unavailable on the dash display. Before I shell out on a bluetooth cradle do I need something else to plug this into or will it just sit in the centre console?

hi, you should find a lead in your centre console so the bluetooth module can plug into it.

Hi phil, is this lead under the centre console or under the lid? At the back of the console appears to be some sort of flap covering something, would it be under there?

hi, the lead should be visable the minute you lift the lid of the centre console, when i picked up my new ml on march 1 i also ordered a bluetooth module went to the car and pluged it in paired my phone with it and job done. so if your car has been pre wired you should be able to see the lead, good luck,

If car is prewired then in consol you will find a cap, lift of cap and you will find the HDI interface for the cradle, if you havent got this then the car hasnt got prewiring,

Sorry to hijack your thread but I have a similar problem. I am clueless regarding the phone prewiring. Apparently our car is prewired but I have no idea what I do next to get a phone working on it. Here is a picture of the bit underneath the cap in the centre armrest. I don't have a handbook so I can't read that to find out anything.

I know this probably sounds daft but can you buy a cradle for all mobile phones that will fit in there or is it only certain brands? I keep hearing people talk a lot about Nokia cradles but I've got a Samsung phone and I have no idea if they do a cradle for that. I have tried looking online but not really sure what I am looking for

Link is dead :(

So it is, I just noticed too! Oh well I have your link to look at :D

I see you have the SAP thingy which is obviously different to what I have. Does yours fit in that bit under the armrest too and if so how do you actually use it? We don't have COMAND and so are wondering how you actually make a call and if you have to use the phone on speaker to be able to talk handsfree

SAP is just a type of bluetooth puck which you could very easily plug into the connector under the armrest, (I have the same system as you) but you need a phone that supports SIM Access Profile.

You could plug in a HFP bluetooth puck and use your current phone or just about any phone. You make calls by using the steering wheel buttons to select numbers from your phone memory. Do you have Audio 20? Then you can dial numbers usng the number pad on the righthand side.

The phone call is played through the car's speakers, automatically muting the radio/cd if it's playing. There will be a microphone either on the underside of the rvm or attached to the headlining near the screen.

Thanks for that info :D

Not sure if we have Audio 20 or not as we don't have the owners manual. I will let you know once Mercedes send a new one onto us :D

In the meantime here is a photo of it, maybe you can tell from this :)

If you buy the part number I listed it allows bluetooth link. It sits in the arm rest and as long as you pair your phone or phones to it it picks it up as you or hubby gets in the car. It's a little bit pricer than a cradle but it will move from car to car and allow you to change your phone as long as they are bluetooth compatable.
