is there any way that a phone kit can be installed that works the same as the pre wired,my car doesnt have pre wire but would like to use the head unit like pre wire,is this possible.

you need to get the parts to install the phone, there are a few different phone you can get, a fix phone, the nokia kits with integrate with the car head uit via d2b and the latest uhi kit which can be used with the changeable cradles or even the new Bluetooth cradle these also integrate with head unit, but first you need the parts for pre wire, these parts are floating around just need to know were to get them but please is ebay I have seen a few on there, might have the items saved

At the risk of contradicting King, I haven't seen any way of integrating a non MB kit with the head unit. There are ways of integrating the audio but not the display or wheel controls. YYou can have the proper MB kit fitted but its prohibitively expensive. Just get a decent after market bluetooth kit. There are som excellent ones on the market.

Ah. now I'm with you. Not seen any myself but i guess they are out there. Makes sense.
It could be quite an involved job though e.g new armrest trim matching issues and I'd always be wary of buying such kit from ebay as, if it doesn't work, where do you start......

It mainly plug and play it connects to the command system by D2B, the hardest thing to connect is the power but, I think you should be able to get power from the radio is, or you can buy a special cable that connects to the cars power off the loom in the passengers side

cheers people for the replys,now heard of one kit that does showon the dash the callers id etc but cannot be used to dial from head unit,thats not what i want,may have to wait.

you will need to get something made by mercedes for full intergration
