Temp gauge in instrument cluster -W210

Mine is probaly a common problem, but on my W210 E320cdi, the temperature gauge does not show all the digits (and the gear selector ones also seem to be going!). What is the solution? I reckon I can take the instrument cluster out but can you replace the temp gauge etc itself or do you need a new instrument cluser in its entirety. Thanks for your help. Malcolm

Thanks for your note - I'm DIY minded up to a point! If I can get 'chapter & verse' as to what to do, then I'll give it a go. I restored a W113 over a couple of years but electrics are not my strong point! I am aware that there are companies that rebuild clusters for £120 or so, but I don't really want to be without my car for any length of time - and if I can save £120 then so much the better.

Are there any other threads on the site that give further details? I assume that it is not just a question of putting new sections into the cluster - that would be more my level of competence!

The fault is a matter of packing out the ends of the cables on the connectors inside

I will try and find a link
