I have recently bought a 2001/51 reg C200K Avant Garde Automatic with 73k miles and full MB service history to 65k.

When driving today the temperature gauge appeared on the computer and temperature was reading just over 80 degrees. I consulted the handbook and it told me that the temperature gauge only appears when the temperature is excessive.

I'd greatly appreciate any advice as to whether it is normal for the temperature gauge to appear in normal driving. The car is due a service in about 2000 miles but I'm tempted to have it done early, I'd greatly appreciate any advice as to what to ask the mechanics to look out for, especially as I will be taking the car to an independent.

Bearing in mind that visco fans on the engine cut in at 85c and the electric ones at 100c. I would not worry too much at this stage, all cars more so after a long run can put on the odd warning lamp now and then, see how it goes over the next few days.
