Temprature goes nuts in town driving HELP HELP

I have a problem with my 1995 C36 AMG It does not overheat but the temp does go a bit nuts in traffic its fine on the freeway/motorway.

The car heats up ok and heater gives heat ok temp sits around 80C to 87C ish while driving around as soon as I sit at traffic lights the temp starts to creap up anything upto 100c I have seen it at 110c in hot weather then within 10 second or so as soon as I drive off the temp will start to come back down.

The car also Pinks just on take off when temp gets over 100 oC.

Oh and if this helps Somtimes the AUX fans just used to come on as soon as I'd start the car not so much now but used to from cold.

The AUX Fans eventually turn on normally just before it goes to red.

No water Leak or Oil mixes the car is still rapid and drives fine.

I'M GOING NUTS I have had the car 4 years love it but I feel a very frustrated.

1) Are you loosing any coolant?

2) Have you had a coolant change recently?.....if so have you got an air lock in the system

2) Could be your water pump......its not uncommon for them to fail on these engines.

3) Have you got any oil leaks around the head....look at the rear left hand side as you look at the engine. If you have, your head gasket may be on its way out.

nah - i reckon it can be the temp sensor switch - usually mounted on the front of the engine - do you have 1 or two fans?
if one fan, then fan #1 comes on at (say)88 degrees, fan #2 at 90 degrees, if fan 1 is not coming on, then the sensor might not be telling it to come on - or the fan is dead...

:? The Engine has a regular coolent change and Mobil 1 every 6 months oil and every year or so for coolent. its done 83000 miles with Mercedes Greenoaks services with an Oil change at Birds/Carlson in between since I bought the car at 40000 miles.

Head Gasket? It seems to drive 100% never skips a beat

when my Aux fans come on they seem to come on at the same time both in one go.

How often do mercedes electric fans come on generally driving around town?

Hi

I would check the fan coupling as this may not be working properly or not at all. I would also blat the radiator out with a steam cleaner, or remove the bolts which hold the AC condensor to the rad & blast between them with a steam cleaner. Usually the cr*p gets stuck in there and blocks the rad.


In saying that a little over a 100 is not a problem as long as the fans cut in & cool down the engine.
