Went out today and tried the R230 SL500, an 02 car with 33k,active body control and most other things, very nice, less wind noise than the 129, not sure that the 500 has that much more power than the 320, but yes, very nice. the linguatronic is not the end of the world, but many of the other toys were nice.
Some little things trouble me, in my trade press today I see that you need a programmer to put the sensonic to sleep while you change the brake pads, this one had the distronic cruise,, I know that I am going to get one, maybe I will go and try a 350 tomorrow.

Would you keep the 129 also, or trade it in?

Panoramic Roof.

I know the 129 is so much nicer with a Panoramic roof, they do one on the new 500. The car I saw did not have one, on speaking to my friend this morning who has one in his new E class, he says that the car gets to hot inside, even with the blind drawn. Any veiws please, thanks :D

Malcolm, what did you make of the interior quality versus the 129?

I've also had a drive of an 02 '500 - the lady whose 500SL I bought replaced it with an R230. Agreed, lovely car, but the interior didn't feel as well built as mine.

If you get it you will love it, a colleague of mine picked his 03 plate SL500 about 3 weeks ago, it's ****** amazing, he loves it, he says that it feels faster than a previous car a E46 M3. When you get it don't forget to put the pics.

When I first sat in one I would have agreed with you, as that was my feeling too, but the last time it felt really nice, I think its just a matter of accepting newer things and ideas, but having said that my 129 is in a world on its own.

They are lovely - but then again so is your current one. I'm a bit green. Well, maybe one day.

The SBC is a pain for home pad changes. There is a sequence of things you can do to disable it, on the 211 anyway, but it sounded too complicated to me and requires all 4 wheels off the ground. Open door, close door within x seconds, turn right front wheel, within x seconds spin left rear etc etc - can't see it working easily. Allegedly you can disconnect both batteries and that will do it - makes sense..., but also allegedly (I haven't been able to confirm this), you could simply unplug the SBC unit - though I don't know the risks with this.

Getting old!!once apon a time I could line bore a crankcase for the shaft, and scrape and bed all of the bearings in, Brake pads was all that I had left in life to do, every day take them out, and put them back, and its going to be taken away from me, I must think about this.

Your only as young as you feel (I always like to feel a tight bodied 24 year old female when I get up);) , but understandably there are a lot of things to consider it is a big outlay. I do hope you get though.
