I've just test drove this and was not impressed, it was horrible. It was a google eyed version, face uplift and it was a classic. It seemed tinnie and cheap. The interior was poor the dash looked cheap the car felt light. The engine compared to my c250td sounded crap.

I've had my C220CDI for just over a month now. I've covered 1800 miles so far and I'm enjoying it. It is averaging 38-40mpg it pulls away nice I don't have many complaints. In fact my only complaint is the CD system, I get really bad interferrance coming through when passing mobile phone masts, powerlines etc. My last merc was a 280E w124, and the new C class albeit a bit smaller feels just as good to drive.

having spent time in both, the old C and current C don't really compare. The onld one was very much in the 123/124 style. Old fashoned and hewn from solid feeling. Everything about it was unapologetically old fashioned and chunky, and in truth, it was the last of the 'old' mercs. The new one is very good, nice to drive etc but a lot closer to Audi, BMW etc than the mercs of old. It seems everyone wanst sporty coupe style cars these days and that's what the current C is (IMHO). In terms of shape and feeling, I still feel the original C was pretty much perfect, but time moves on.

I drove a C180 Kompressor, 52 plate and a C220 CDi, 54 plate a week ago. The 180 felt a bit 'light' and cheap, then again it was a classic with a naff interior. The C220 CDi was FANTASTIC. Being the 54 plate it was the facelifted new shape, with the new dash with the twin round clocks, not the naff citroen stlye thing behind the wheel on the older W203. It was admittedly an Avantgarde with leather, sat nav and all the goodies, but it drove superbly. Fast, responsive and sure-feeling. If I had £26K I would of bought it there and then. The latest C's (facelifted) are far superior to the earlier W203's. I think Im in lurve.

I agree with you guys totally.
My dad has a '03 auto model with all the extras.
I have not driven it day to day, but 20/30miles a few times.

I am not a paticular lover of diesels, but this engine surprised me with its
smoothness and quiteness, compared to the old 250d.

I found the interior nice and fresh, and completely different than the previous
model, which he has had 2 of.
When I last drove it my regular car was a 300ce, so there was quite a
difference, but I still found it a nice drive.

MB led the way with common rail and now all the rest are following.
