i'm having no luck fixing my alarm, it is working totally randomly, and the immobiliser turns on and off at it's own will....i guess it's a fuse or it needs resetting or something??!?!

the thing is:
I am told that the small key that i have on my key fob can be used to dis-able the alarm, so i dont have to deal with it or the immobiliser anymore.
is this so!? and if it is, could anyone tell me where the key actually goes...as i've had a look around in all the obvious places and cannot find it at all.
Please help me on this.....even if you dont know anything about the SL in particular, surely there are similarities between all Mercedes? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Ben

What SL do you have? those keys went out ages ago, but if you still have one of those, then the key goes in the back of the actual siren under the bonnet.

Hi,

If you have the MBSS1 alarm system, then the little Red and Black electronic disable keys can be put into a small socket that is either in the small sun-glasses compartment in the centre console, or somewhere in the drivers footwell area. It is a small black socket and not easy to see.

Please note that the immobiliser is separate to the alarm system. The immobiliser uses a transponder (circular coil) around the ignition key which passively senses the code on the keyfob.

On the SL, some alarm versions were factory fitted (these have the tilt and interior sensor disable switch [car-and-hook symbol] on the centre console); however in the UK, most alarms were dealer fitted and do not have this switch, but have a small red button/light, that is normally placed near the ignition key. On the latter, finding the socket for the disable key can be tricky as there was no standard place to put it.
