The Electric Fans have started to run cont,,,

Just yesterday, bright and cold, we started our 1995 250D salon and a few seconds later I noticed that the Electric Cooling Fans were running, a quick drive up the road and we switched off, when we immediately restarted the Fans then did not run,,,,this morning the car has gone off with the Electric Cooling Fans running again and a quick look in the Haynes WSM shows all sorts of electrical gubbins that might have a bearing on things, before I start blindly dismantling the underwing area to get at some God Forsaken control box, can anyone point me in a likely direction, where is the fault most likely to lie?

This could be water in the fan control box,,nearside behind bumper, or moisture in the fuse box with 2 lids,, the SAM can get moisture in this box causing the fan to run, there are modified lids and seals for this box now

Many thanks indeed Malcom, I like the idea of moisture in the fuse box rather more than moisture in the control unit under the wing!! whats the "SAM" and are the modified lids for the Fuse Boxes or the control unit, can I tell if I have the modified lids allready??

The SAM ( signal acquisition module) really needs lifting to see in there is any corrosion on the contacts.
