I saw a Mercedes’ estate today with a badge saying ‘Sport’… was this ever a thing?

Right then,
With the physical area of the tailgate on my Vito and, the almost endless possibilities given this...

I am clearly going to win this competition.

I like your thinking. Some suggestions if I may, What about SLS ? R8 ? How about XK120 ? I also like the E Type Jag, and have a soft spot for the Austin Maxi. Please post photos.

Thinking wider, the Saturn V Rocket was a beast, and so is the latest M142 Himars.

I am merely responding to posts addressed at me. Or do I not have the right of reply?
You don’t have the right to troll the forum, same rules for everyone. Best of luck in your next venture.

I'm only a regular on one other forum, but on that one any posted disagreement with a mod results in instant removal. That forum is very well moderated and well behaved as a result, so the sword of Damocles policy certainly works for them. No problem with the moderation on this forum either, I know that Blobcat really loves almost all of us really.

I agree with what you say.
The guy was a member here for 2 years but only recently started posting, with the vast majority being in this thread.
He just kept on pushing and pushing while ignoring any warnings. I thought everybody was more than fair to him and didn't resort to rudeness or name calling, which would definitely have happened on other forums.
He wouldn't take a hint so got what he deserved IMO.
Let's not waste any more time thinking about him.

For decades people have been debating this topic.
The bottom line is simple, if the factory did not feel that your car warranted an AMG badge, then it doesn't.

Slipery slope that.
The factory felt my car should be badged CLS 359d - by your logic, I can't de-badge it.
The factory felt my car should not have a spoiler - can I not add one?
The same for painted calipers/privacy glass/quad exhaust/retc.
Surely, your car - your choice. Even if it does provide the rest of uws with a little smile :)

First of all this thread is about putting badges on not taking them off. Of course you can take badges off if you want to, and I have. :)
The badge is the official manufacturer model designation fitted at the factory, and is more than simply a cosmetic feature.
The other things you mention are basically cosmetic features and naturally you can add any amount that you desire to your own car, but if you also add an AMG badge when one was not fitted at the factory then it becomes purely a cosmetic feature.

Nothing wrong with changing exhausts, adding spoilers etc. That's just personal changes or improvements.

Same with removing a badge, no foul there.

But ADDING a badge to make a car appear to be something it is not is what a lot of us are not a fan of. Ultimately its down to the owner of the car though.

Agreed except for removing badges.

IMO, removing badges is a little of the same thing. You mainly see it on lower spec cars of a particular range (yes there are sometimes debadged “sleepers” but rarely).

I really dislike the SL400 badge (car is identical in every aspect to a SL500 but with a smaller engine) on my boot and while most observers would not know or care, I cannot bring myself to remove it.

Do it! Rory, it will look great, nothing to do with yours "only" being a 400 and not a 500, it'll just look better, nice smooth, clean back end, (so to speak) and just a tad easier to clean, you know you want to. ;):)
