behind the instrument panel. Can anyone please let me know what I need to buy to fix it before I pull the cluster out - presumably a fuse of some sort, or is it a Benz special?

Standard fuse the colour according to the rating. Buy another of the same colour don't have to be Merc. Cannot be certain unless you attach a snap of the fuse.

Someone else may know better.
