.....Thought it was too good that I'd covered 1000 miles and the Money Pit hadn't caused me any grief, well I thought too soon for it has leaked all it antifreeze out and after a quick investigation has revealed what I hoped wasn't. A rusted out core plug or frost plug in the most inaccessible place under the inlet manifold :(

Anyone replaced one before?
Can I just remove the inlet manifold to access the core plug on the om648 engine or does the fuel rail need to come off too.
Many thanks in advance........Good old Money Pit never fails to empty my Wife's bank account

Oh no, the E Class is definitely the Money Pit!
The SL was miss diagnosed by many so called experts until I booked into AMF who got to the problem within minutes. :)

That’s a proper good vote for @alexanderfoti !
I take it you travelled to him in Kent because you exhausted all your local specialists ?

Alex is a very clever and clued up chap Wighty and well worth a visit ;)
Pretty much so, when the car was checked in the past it didn't play up  The suggestions to what it might be which did sound plausible were expensive parts to no avail :(
Even had the car on the dyno and that pulled cleanly all the way up to 4200rpm but was max revs at 142mph. Only a few weeks after that I discovered that the winter tyre limiter was set at 140mph  Teach me for playing with the buttons while waiting in the car!! It has since been set at 'no limit' :D
