OK Guys, I accept that this forum is here for the benefit of all of us. I have benefited over time more from this forum than I have given to it and I accept that as well. I like being here.

Therefore I also accept the decision of the moderators. I appreciate that being a moderator on a site like this is not an easy task and accept that some decisions need to be made that are not acceptable to all members.

However, I find the phrase 'The Owners of the forum decided what is acceptable and what isn't not you.' to be dictatorial and offensive and not in the spirit of a forum.

However, if the link posted is a faux link taking us to some pornography then I think a deletion is justified. However, I think a better explanation of the censorship would have caused less reaction.

As I said before, I do not like censorship......at all...

If the moderators on this site feel the need to delete then I think a fuller explanation of why is more than justified.

I do however feel the need to state that 'The Owners of the forum decided what is acceptable and what isn't not you.' apart from being inappropriately punctuated and inadequate grammatically is also downright rude.

Guys, the moderator job here is not easy but it should be more consultative than I have seen here...

Actually, I am gong to retreat here, reading the slightly threatening private messages sent to me, I agree I am wrong.

Apologies all round. The post in question was clearly very rude and offensive.

I would say though that our Moderators could maybe offer more detailed explanations when deleting threads...

I really do not want to see pornographic or racist threads on here and I appreciate our moderators efforts to protect us.

I would like to see though a good wholesome explanation when a thread is stopped...

Thanks....

i feel for you as member v moderator is never a fair fight

and its fustrating when you want to fight your corner and topics get closed

although i agree porn has no place on this site and the link was correctly removed i too get fustrated and angry when my freedom to say what i want is stoped and when that happens i tend to loose it a bit

im not promoting my own site (not actually mine) but that site truly is one of the last bastians of free speech on the net that i still use

if you want to see a truly awfuly moderated site try www.avf.com, there you will meet every little hitler known to man and then see just how generally relaxed this site is as by now you would have been triple banned with more points than derby county

I've been reading this thread and the original one that started this (at times rather heated) debate.

Like you Joe I am fundamentally opposed to censorship in open society when others try to impose their morals or idealogy on me without consultation.

However in the context of the forum I have to say I'm with the moderators on this one. The forum is for the use of Mercedes enthusiasts of all ages but more importantly of all sensibilities - and you have to respect that in some cases what one person finds acceptable can be completely offensive to others.

As Slinky pointed out, we all know and accepted the forum terms when we signed up, so we have to abide by those same terms when we use the forum. I would assume that its a pretty time consuming job moderating and reviewing the threads as it is without also having to explain in detail why a thread or post was pulled.

One suggestion I thought of was threads that are perhaps 'risque' without being outright offensive/racist/pornagraphic etc, could be moved to a specific folder which forum members could view 'at their own risk'. Just a thought but not sure if it would be acceptable or practical for the moderators.

Just my 2p worth! ;)

This forum is as far as I can see, free at the point of use for all of us.

Someone pays for it, and that someone makes the decisions. If you don't like their decisions, then start your own forum and pay the bandwidth costs.

Its a free country, but don't assume its a free forum.

Well said, now let's go back to faulty AC systems now that the weather has improved somewhat. Makes a change from windscreen wiper failures
