OK not quite the ultimate test . . but I just wanted to get your attention and feedback :D
While surfing the net I came across an interesting article comparing some of the wax/polish products on offer. Although not the perfect scientific test, it did provide a good comparison between products.
The test was conducted in America so some of the products may not be identical over in the UK.

Hope this helps those out there who, like me, are looking to put that extra long lasting shine on their MB 8)

NEW!

Oh and I forgot to mention. This is my first post here! Although I have been reading through a lot of the stuff on here since I got my 1st MB a few weeks ago! The comments have been very helpful in my understanding of the car. I'm glad to have chosen a car with such a great community presence.

I have myself a great 1992 230CE, completely standard at the moment, but its in my hands now! Lets see what I can do to personalise and enhance it! Alloys are currently blistering, but at 12 years old I'm not surprised . . There are a couple of things I need to get done to it as a matter or urgency, but I will set up a new thread and no contaminate this one by going off the point any further than I already have! Just wanted to say hi and thank you all for the time and effort you put aside to make life for new owners like me so much easier! :D

Welcome onboard!

I just invested in my first spray can of Meguairs NXT wax but now I really must get an orbital polisher and some fresh T Cut, the bonett looks fine from about 3 feet but then get up close and all the tiny swirl marks and hairline abrasions become obvious.

Mike.

Interesting study although it doesn't compare whatsoever to my own experiences.

IMO, nothing i have ever used compares to Zymol Carbon on my particular car & I must have tried 30 odd polishes in my search.

Mer

My favourite polish, which I tried on several vehicles, is called 'Mer'. It's very long lasting which means you tend not clean/polish your car so often. Unfortunately it's quite expensive.

I have not tried Mer on an Mercedes but it should not have any detrimental effect on the paintwork ... unless someone knows better?

REGARDS Phil

We really should listen to Spike. I doubt anything would be used that would introduce the slightest, teeniest possibility of damaging the paint job done in Eastern Europe. Can't remember if an original colour was mentioned, but I'll go to the foot of our stairs; I've got one of them as wallpaper on my laptop its that good. Search for "how much for re-spray"

As mine has been scratched through to the metal on passenger door by a smackhead (and I know who he is but can't prove it  ) I was thinking of getting it resprayed in black. Big thread on colours elsewhere that I've contributed to, but would be interested to hear more opinions / advice on getting it done in the UK as I've not got the bottle to do what Spike did.

Its silver now with a few rusty bubbles on arches (the usual). I've only ever seen one black 300CE and it looked THE dogs knackers. just flat black. I know about the dirt etc.

Lnm,
My friend just got his new Blue/black (Midnight Blue I thinK)CLK Keyed
as did all the other cars in his road. They know who did it but cannot
prove it just like you. I know what I would do, but will not put it in writing
for fear of incriminating myself for doing somthing I didn't do yet.

I have seen lots of 300ce's in a kind of Grey/black metalic. I would not
call it a true black though. Like you I have never seen a true black ce.
MB colours of the 80's and early 90's were very conservative.

Regards changing to a dark colour. I have azuite on my 129, which is fairly
difficult to keep clean at this time of the year. But the advantage is when
it is clean, it looks a million dollars. I am too lazy to wax my car. I use a
shampoo wax and it sparkles.
