Thinking of breaking my Mercedes

Hi all

I have been struck with a few major jobs to be done on my poor old girl, who i love dearly, but the price to put these right is just too costly, so i decided to break for spares myself, i have an empty garage to leave her until shes all gone apart from a few broken bits etc.
the one main problem i have is how do i find out what to charge for these parts, i dont want to advertise at such a large rate that i dont end up selling anything, on the other hand i dont want to advertise too cheapily and loose quite a lot of money

Has anybody done this before and if so how did they overcome this problem i have

Don't forget that once you have sold the wheels it is not easy to move once they have gone, Luck is on your side right now as the price of scrap metal is at an all time high, should the market change you may have problems getting rid of the hulk.

If you type "mercedes spares" into Google search engine up come lots of people supplying parts right back to 60's models (and maybe before). You could check their prices as a guide. Don't know if that helps. And you just might find it less hassle to get one of them to buy your beloved steed and let them break it rather than you go through it all???

That sounds a sensible way to do it, people who do not turn up,others wanting things for nothing, it will make a hell of a mess around your house for months.

I broke a 1993 S500 recently, really nice car in many respects I took me a month just to recover the cost of the car on the parts. all the body work and body tub went to the crap man, I still have the engine and box.
I break RR's for a living and they sell very well in bits, Mercs didnt for me but possibly the older MB's will.
Why dont you consider buying another MB like yours just for the parts you need to get yours back on the road and then break the rest to recover some cash.

There's one going on ebay number 4646661809 selling 11th June - only £360 curently. Perhaps has the parts you want or of course has the same pedigree of problems?

i have thought about that, but have another W124 i have used some good bits on, so would rather break now, also is there a site to help me name all parts if im stuck, i know most post parts names, but there are a few i wouldnt know what they are called for the life of me

I probably should know but what does 'carat duchatalet' mean? And was it a knickname for a particular model or what? Any photos before you break her?
