Hello and welcome.

That's a good mileage for the car, it always depends on the overall conditon and of course the service history.
In my opinion, £2k top whack. You are bound to get opinions from many members on what to look for fault-wise.

That's big money.

OK, there's a lot of car there but it would have to be an absolute 'minter' to command that sort of price. Haggle hard. :x
Running costs can be high, needs specialist servicing and they're a wee bit thirsty. More toys than Hamleys.

Independent dealer price around 3K.

Original Price: 42K (ouch!!)

Very hard on prices for the time being, they are getting cheaper by the day.

The 220 is a very nice car, and most never give any problems

Yep - 4K is a bit on the steep side. On the question of the S280 - IMO, as the car is big and heavy the 280 is a tad unpowered. Mine is the 320, and is an exellent compromise - certainly quick enough when needed.

Just make sure that everything that SHOULD work, DOES work. All the lights on the dash work, as do the usual windows, aircon etc etc.

I bought my 1998 S280 almost two years ago. Here is where I tempt fate, I have done 46,000 miles since then and no significant problems. Total mileage to date is 145,000 and I still love driving it. A little under-powered, but a lovely way to get from A to B.

Good luck with the car
