Hi All,

I'm thinking about selling my '89 W124 300CE. I've had it over four years now, and it's been exceptionally reliable and great to own, but the fuel economy (or lack of) is starting to get on my nerves. I'm looking to trade it for an economical commuter, as I really only use to to drive to work and back, so it's a waste of money really.

What I need to know is how much I might expect to get for it. Spoke to one dealer yesterday and he didn't have a clue what it was worth!

It's silver, bodywork is ok apart from a little spot of rust round the edge of the sunroof. The edge of the black in-fill panel in the front bumper is missing on the off side. So overall not bad, but a bit tatty here and there.

144k, no history since about 110k, although serviced by me every 6k.

Black leather interior, all the usual goodies although no aircon.

MoT until October and tax until end of April.

What do you reckon folks? I'm inclined to think it'll be a bugger to sell privately, so I may end up having to take an insulting part-ex.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

cheers,

Nik

It's probably worth studying the form on e-bay. This should give an indication of what the rock bottom price and dependant on condition what it might make above that. The miles at 144K are not too high and it has the main attraction with these cars, leather trim. If everything works and it drives OK I would expect to get 1K+ for it depending on how tidy it looks.

If you decide to sell and put it on e-bay really go to town on the description and history, from what you've said in your post it sounds well looked after and a genuine car.

If it wasn't such an expensive option I would put a gas conversion kit on it.
Great car with timeless looks.

Good Luck if you go ahead with the sale.

I'm tempted to do the gas conversion, but it's the uncertainty over whether the govt will hike tax up on it, plus the payback period would probably be 2-3 years, which is longer than the rest of the car is likely to last before it needs major money spending on things like suspension, exhaust etc.

Thanks for your input.

cheers,

Nik
