well my beast is partially in bits, needing sorted out. it may have to go to a specialist for diagnosis/repair, but needs must! also i need transport to work, so the agency is very kindly lending me one of their fleet of cars for my work transport, until my car is sorted! as ever, i get the pick of the fleet. a 1995/6 'N' reg ford escort! the cold start system doesnt work, but it is the si version so it has white dials instead of black ones! i suspect its the 1600cc version, rather than the 1800cc version, it has power steering, elec. front windows, key operated central locking, a manual gearbox and, er, thats about it!

now, arent i the luckiest guy around to be loaned such a gem of a car?:rolleyes:

at least i get to experience the joys of a manual again though!:cool:

For a moment there I thought you were getting a free car and were moaning about it.

Even for free, FORD ESCORT is not an option on many people's list

free car? me? haha! i wish! having said that i owned a 79 r reg escort turbodiesel once. 120k miles on it. dad had a brand new escort gti at one stage and said it would go round a certain corner near him at 70mph. so i tried it in my 120k miler diesel. and made it. some idiot in a 3 series BM with the M tech bits on it chased me down the hill (i baulked him on the climb) to said corner. i hit it at 70 and all i saw was a smarte ar*e in a 3 series with the front kissing the tarmac as he had 2 brake so hard (didnt know the road and sh*t himself when he saw the corner!) and when i got to dads 3 miles later, i waved at him as he drove by, laughing my head off! clever twerp!

It works; yours doesn't. I'd suggest that the 'gem' is actually an upgrade from what you currently have.

true, but the setback is only temporary. i served my time on escorts like this, and it will be terminally ill very soon. they burn valves out and i can feel this one starting to misfire ever so slightly! it stalls when cold and is definately the worst example of an escort i have ever come across! but at least its got a manual box!
