Hi
I'm new here, I've got a 1983 W123 200t, average milage, body restored, estate, I changed the oil last sunday, & driving home from work last week I noticed there was white smoke coming out the back but only going down a steep hill, is there too much oil in it, of is this something serious, like the piston rings or something ghastly.....

Any advice would be much appreciated, even if its bad news!

White smoke is not oil (that would be blue), you may have a head gasket problem or no problem at all.

Remember the temperature is going down, so more condensation (white smoke) will be visible.

Don't throw it away yet...............

Valve guide seals.

As you over-run down the hill with the throttle closed the vacuum builds in the inlet manifold. This sucks oil down the valve guides and then burns it off, especially when you open the throttle again.

Seals = pence, labour = pounds.

Live with it until it annoys you too much.

It will just be condensation if it is white, If blue and only after oil change did you use correct oil? Semi synthetic is best, fully synthetic low viscosity is too thin and older MBs dont like it. Makes them noisy & rough and they burn the stuff like a 2 stroke.
