I recently bought a 2001 plate A Class A160 Avantgarde for my wife. Despite never owning a Merc before I have set about modding it here and there, but I'm no great mechanic - all my changes are cosmetic ones.

When driving it has quite a strong pull to the left and as such the tyres are starting to wear unevenly. I decided I would take all four wheels off today just to re-seat them and to my amazement found that I couldn't remove any of them. There is a set of Mercedes original alloys all round with locking bolts and regular 17mm lugs. I jacked up the rear, removed all the lugs and locking bolts and pulled - nothing. Smae with the fronts. It is almost as it the wheels are welded on!! Then I removed the centre caps and found a smooth looking round cover(?) but there is no tool in the boot to remove this and I don't even know if it is meant to come off to reveal a master bolt underneath. Needless to say I've never been in a position where I couldn't remove a wheel before now and I certainly don't have this problem on my 5 series BMW.

Is there anyone out there who can either advise me on the correct procedure or point me in the right direction to obtain any special tool that I'm missing. Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like its a case of disimilar metal corrosion.

Make sure the car is secure on the jack and give the wheel (tyre, not alloy) a good blow with all the wheel nuts removed. That usually frees it off.

I think the small cap you talk about is covering the axle nut. It should not be removed.

Good luck with it...

The wheels are corroded on ,get a piece of wood and hold i at back of wheel and then give it a few bangs with a large hammer,do not touch the centre cap as this is a dust cover for the nut to remove the wheel bearing.
