Did anybody see this film on Ch 4 movies?

What was the merc in the opening scenes?

Are there any other films with mercs in them? (apart from the Great Escape)

Does anybody have a merc that was in a film?

Does anybody else have a merc previously owned by somebody famous?

(There was a recent film with a Merc...One Last Chance...who owns that?)

Who's pride and joy/heap of junk is this?

It was used in the film 'Late Night Shoping' and the faulty radio was part of the plot. Just to think that we are all driving around with potential film stars in our dashboards

Wait till Clarkson gets wind of this.

SKY (press your red button) are doing Movies Great Cars at the moment. You only get to chose from their list though and they seem to have missed out the above films.

Another notable oversite is Two Lane Blacktop staring Warren Oats and James Taylor (I think James Taylor went onto become a singer after this). Anybody know how that film finished? There is something wrong with my copy and the ending is missing.

Vanishing Point is on the list at least.

at the risk of sounding like a film anorak - I'm not :)

there's a merc 560SEC driven by Patrick Swayzee in Roadhouse

a superb chase in The Driver where a "300SEL" (it was actually a rebadged 280S) gets trashed

Will smith drives a heavily customised E class in Men in Black II

as to any more Mercs in films - try this site

http://www.hampstead.com.au/mb/index.php

there are loads :)

The original French version of "Taxi" also has a few Mercs - I suspect E500's pre '93. The film centres around a taxi driver who's Peugot 607 (I think) is designed to outrun anything.... he gets involved with a german gang who use red W124s.

Great car chases for those who enjoy such things! Taxi 2 is worth a look as well. I haven't, and won't be, watching the recent Hollywood remake.

The Bourne Supremacy has a great car chase too where police (russian I think) use W124s again.

I have watched another couple of Glasgow based movies, the bad guys always seem to have a Merc.

One film is about a crooner, Tony Cocozza, who got some help from a mafia type group of gangsters in order to boost his showbiz career (sound familiar?). He only sings only Sinatra songs as well!

I think every Scottish film has a Merc in it (except Braveheart maybe). Good of SKY to screen the Scottish Braveheart version tonight,...the one with the happy ending where he gets the girl.

SKY are showing The Great Escape on the day after hogmany...more bad guys in Mercs I guess.

Bond film: for your eyes only : has Bad guy in bad glasses, Emille Loque, slung to an inglorious end off a cliff face on an island in the med somewhere. he was sitting in a merc as the event unfolded round him. This is the film where a 2cv evades all manner of nasty men.

and for those of you who really need to.

The Transporter. If you can make it far enough thru this film you will find the main man steals an S Class . this was after his BMW 735 meets an acceptable ending for such a car.

be aware tho, if you continue to watch this film and get as far as the bus garage you will hammer pins into your eyes for deceiving you.

it took me 3 attempts to get to the end of the film and that was by fast forward. good car chase at beginning tho (but you do have to forgive it one moment of madness)

none of this is scotlandish tho soz. Not unless scotland has moved to south of france like david coulthard did.

Travis do a video in scotland...no mercs but one horrendous viva coupe.

the ronin

they scared Bobby De Niro in the Ronin in a 6.9 SEL. I might have been a bit apprhensive myself. French drivers, big motors, bank robberies, v. topical.

Strangley, there was a Scottish film called 'Trainspotting', you may have heard of it. It seems to be a bad title as there isn't any trains in it at all. The closest seems to be a bit where they get of a train on Rannoch Moor. I never did understand why it was called 'Trainspotting'.

The Trainspotter was floating around Channel 4 movies, I guess I better record it.

Most Jockwood movies are hard to watch all the way through and you have to look at them in small sections.

Sweet Sixteen was on SKY the other night. Yet another jock film about drugs and violence and stuff.

It's all about neds, so SKY thought it would be worth putting up subtitles so normal people could understand the plot.

Anyways, the neds steal a car...can you guess what sort of car it was? (it's no wonder my insurance is so high)
