Hi,

I have a 1984 500 SL and have had idle problems for about a year now. Initially it was very intermittent but now happens more than half the time. The slide valve has been cleaned out and the contoller checked and it would appear that the fault is not either of these.

The garage is now telling me that it is the throttle position switch (TPS) and it will take about 4 hours to fit a new one. Reviewing the R107 idle hell docs online the TPS is not even mentioned there or in any other articules I can find about idle problems.

Does this sound like the likely cause and does 4 or so hours sound reasonable to change this?

Regards
