Hello,
I'm considering buying a MB 123 series 200, 1982 [see the other thread I've posted in] and it looks all good apart from a bit of a thud noise back right which the owner says is just the need of a new shock absorber which costs about £25 and is easy to fit...
I have friends who can help me with car issues but am not near home at the moment so just asking people here if this is likely and is it actually easy to fix?
Thanks for your help!

If its only a shock absorber thats little cash and easy to fit.......why has'nt the owner replaced it....maybe a question to ask him.

I am not aware of shock obsorbers making a noise. pushing the rear of the car down, and releasing, the car should not bounce.

Thank you for those comments, bonez and television. I'm seeing the car again tonight so I'll probe further.

It's not the shock absorber which makes the noise. It's the lack of damping of the suspension which 'crashes' over the potholes and bumps.

Nothing that new shocks wont cure. Good shocks transform the ride. cheap and easy to change.

If its that bad then chack that the rear springs have not broken and also check that the rubber stop in the wheel arch has not come apart. If it is constantly being hit the rubber will have seperated from the base plate. You will probably see the base plate still attached to the chassis rail. Not a dificult job to replace. A broken coil spring is a little more difficult to replace.
