hello,i have a 1989 300ce auto,my problem is the tickover it seems low about 500ish rpm and also hunts slightly [rise's up and down] its fine when cold and also when driving,any ideas much apreciated.

Maybe just a clean up around the throtle valve, try it without the air cleaner, I will see if there is anything else.

cheers TV,tried it without air cleaner but theres no difference,any other sugestions??

They do idle slow, mine runs at about 500rpm when hot.

I have heard there is a wire you can connect which raises the idle rpm by 50, which would make a difference. Anyone done this?

The normal thing that upsets Idle only is the EGR valve, this valve should be closed during idle, it is vacuam controled and I think it is around the bulk head on exhaust side. Blanking it off would prove the point, and they cannot be cleaned and also the spring becomes weak. This EGR valve passes harmful gasses from the exhaust system at cruising speeds back into the inlet manifold, but should be closed at idle. it cokes up.
