timing belt?

anyone have any tips for changing a timing belt on a '77 300D mercedes??
any input welcome!!

Easy mistake when not familiar, thought my landrover 90 had a timing chain until I read a few posts on another forum, changed the belt since.

it has about 125,000 miles. we are not the original owners, and i suspect that it hasn't been done before. it has made some rattling noises. we have the chain, and the car has been parked for winter, but wanted to get it done for summer driving.
my husband has worked on cars but not a mercedes and wanted to know if there is anything specific before doing......

don't worry we are all illiterate in some respect on this forum.
