timing cover 350 sl

Hi all. dont no if anyone can help. my mother in law/ second mum. (she`s wonderfull) has a 350 sl 1980. for the past god knows how long iv been doing wat started off as as valve seals then tuned in to a timing chain! i cannot for love nor money get the chain cover off. i have the front end of the engin striped every single nut and bolt out and i can get the cover to pivet 1/4-1/2 inch both ways it just wont come all the way off. can anyone help please as this is now driving me mad and taking up vital space in my (very patient) father in laws garage.

Hi, Mark

The plight of your problem is that you have to cut the chain off, use a chain cutter to keep shaving from getting into motor. The replacement chain should have a link for placement . You know kind a like what your looking for now!

Mark, sorry I can't help with advice on your particular query. I would say though that if you've never done one before a lot of people get it wrong, particularly when setting the tensioner after the chain has been replaced, and end up with a broken camshaft. Be careful mate..
