Tips for buying 2nd hand C-class W203

I am planning on buying a second hand C-class in the near future. Will be looking at either C180, C200 or a C230 kompressor models. I am very hesitant at buying a one as I am not the most clued up when it comes to possible problems and things to look out for before buying one:Oops:

Can anybody offer some advice?

Hi and welcome, although I had a fairly well specced 203 c220 cdi Classic SE, I would go for Elegance or Avantgarde for the better spec.
Auto is a must as is FSH, leather is nice and always helps for resale. My problems were restricted to the front suspension with drop links replaced every 30K or so and suspension bushes needing replacement (listen for knocking from front).
I think they were galvanised after 2004?? but more knowlegable folk than me will confirm that.
Some main dealers offer lower rates for servicing on cars over six years old and there are some good indies around.
Nice reliable comfortable cars, get the newest you can afford with as many toys as you can.

If price is not the barrier, I'd go for a post 04 , the facelift model, so much better than the previous, altho they basically look the same. I have the older version and the paint chips easily!
