If you don't have a spare wheel with a Mercedes they give you a can of stuff called "Tirefit". The question I have is does it ruin your tyre or can they still repair it?

Throw Out the Spare!
My 1969 280SL has tubeless 205/70-14 tires
on alloy rims, but the spare tire takes up
almost half of the trunk, and we use the car
for trips with luggage. New cars come with the
Tirefit system instead of a spare, using a spray
can with sealer and a 12-volt air compressor.
I’m tempted to replace the spare with such a
system. Are owners of recent models that have
a flat tire satisfied with the system? How far
and how fast can you drive until the tire is
repaired? Must the tire be replaced? Any other
drawbacks? Is the Mercedes-Benz system different
from the spray cans and compressors
sold in automotive stores?
We have no experience with the factory system,
but we’ve successfully used the type sold in
parts stores, such as Camel JetFlate. Having driven
270 miles on a tire repaired with Camel
JetFlate, air pressure at the end of the drive was
exactly as set when the tire was inflated. Speeds
should be kept reasonable, as heat buildup
could be a detriment to such tire repairs.

Not very conclusive ??

I think I would get a new tyre Helen, especially on your shiny new SL ;)

It really depends on the chemicals used in the 'Tirefit'.. the 'newer' ones are water based and apparently can be washed out.. I know the older type tyre repair goo was despised by the tyre fitters as it made a complete mess inside the tyre.. and a lot of the busier tyre fit places would send an offender away or charge a lot more money..I kinda get the feeling that a lot of people would ignore the tyre and not get it repaired if it stayed hard..oops fully inflated then. so another safety issue there then..

Didn't mercedes research this and came to some conclusion that the aerage motorist has a puncture every 70K miles so giving a bigger storage space you get a can or air and compressor.

My dads early SLK had this system and I think his new SL has it?

My only concern is Ive only had two punctures, but blow outs... Now however good a can of air is it cannot fix that.

Not too good in Europe, especially in parts of France where tyres wider than what fit on the average Citroen or Renault (155 - 195) are either hard to get hold of or V expensive...

Its a gamble I guess.

some of those cans work but some are just rubbish..also the rubber solution in some does make the tyre scrap when u do come to get the tyre fixed properly..if you read the can in the small print they are just a tempory fix..the sealant makes the tyre mushroom plugs to repare tyre, just not stick to the tyre..I would always scrap a tyre with sealant in as you never know if there is 2 punctures in it that it sealed up...But as a get you home or to garage they are ok.dont buy the cheap cans buy the best type u can get.

Tyre dealers don't like the stuff as it is messy, they generally won't repair a tyre that has it fitted anyway. Not many spare wheels on motorbikes & their tyres can't be repaired.

not quite right on motorbike tyres..some types can be repaired especially moped or scooter tyres. But these can only be repaired 1 time only and if its in the tread area and the hole is below 1mm round.and tyres with tubes in the tube can be repaired.

Being pedantic, they aren't motorbikes.

Stop being a prat because you have a large Motorbike--- If it has 2 wheels then it is a Bike if it also has an engine which drives the bike along the ground / road then it is a Motorbike.

I'm not sure why you're insulting me . I'm sure your old enough to remember mods & rockers and if you were to make the same statement to them then I would wish you luck.
Z rated motorbike tyres aren't repaired and Z rated tyres are not generally fitted to Scooters or Mopeds as they simply cannot go that fast*.

*yes I am aware of Suzuki Burgavans are their counterparts
