Just got a S320, the Command sat-nat is ok but much prefer the easier to use Tomtom, plus of course it has speed camera alerts.

I dont like the thought of having the T T power cable trailing over the beautiful dash, has anyone over come this but adding a covert cigarette lighter socket or a hardwire pickup.

Your thoughts would be very much appreciated

Many thanks

I have always hard wired the power lead adapters by either removing the cigar lighter type plug or mounting the plug into a plastic box (Maplins) soldering on wires and running this wire to the main live wire on the ignition switch or to the existing cigar socket that is key 1 and 2 live.

Then the thin wire that goes to the Tom Tom can be lost coming out of the dash somewhere

Mount the TomTom on a Brodit ProClip instead of the windscreen, much tidier.

You could plug the TomTom permanently into something like this and hide the socket wherever it can be accommodated behind dash.
You would of course cut off the Red and Black plugs on the ends of the cigar socket lead and hard wire to the wiring into the cigar lighter socket.
Don’t be tempted to cut off the plug on the TomTom unless you are absolutely sure that there are no important electronics inside it.

Great ideas guys thanks, after your comments its not as daunting as I first thought. I like the fused socket, gonna look on Maplins for one.

Once again many thanks

I had my ICE guy hard wire mine.

It's wired to the ignition and as you can see it's tight and low on the right side, above my tweeter.

Dont cut the Tom Tom plug off, it has a voltage reducer in it and you will fry the unit.

The TomTom works off 5V, as above, cut of the plug and wire to 12V & it will melt.

Thanks fellas, I'd looked at the TT plug & it says the output is lower than input, should have shared that sorry.

MikeE, that is unobtrusive & now where mine will sit, thanks for sharing

Then just get a cigar lighter socket, put this in an ABS box and put under the dash and bring the wire out between the A pillar and dash, you would never see the wire
