Too Much Oil?

Hi everyone, i did an oil change yesterday on my 1990 230CE. I'd been to MB for the copper washer for the sump plug, and took off the old oil filter and then drained the oil, which was quite warm. even jacked up drivers side to aid old oil coming out. no problems.

i checked the haynes manual which said 230 oil capacity is 5.9 litres. I stuck in 5.5 let it settle and read the guage which showed it to be on the word max itself and not on the line (about 3mm above max) - i thought it would need to circulate around the new pump and the channels etc - so took it for a quick spin around the block (no more than 5 miles) (pressure reading 3 on dash)

i got back and the oil level hadn't moved, and now i'm getting oil seepage from the rocker cover, did i do damage by driving it with too much oil in? the only thing i can think is too much oil creates too much pressure?.... - i drained some back out about a quarter of a litre and now it sits 2mm below max

i used castrol 10w-40 genuine MB oil filter.

Begining to think it needs a proper oil flush - i.e gunk in the sump showing it to read as ok when only 5.5 l of oil in it.

What do people think, has anyone had this before? - is oil seepage from rocker a worry, or can i just seal it with hermatite?

Regards

Your Mercedes
S class
The amount of oil rgistering on your dipstick 3mm over the limit isnt excessive, and wouldnt cause enough pressure in the syatem to cause leakage, also the engine has a relief valve which deals with the pressure build up..it may be blocked and need cleaning or replacing..I would tend to think that the rocker gasket was on its way out.. so by all means attempt a silicone seal.. but much better to buy a new gasket..

whereabouts is the pressure vavle located?

and how easy is it to replace the rocker cover gasket? i have a torque wrench, are there any other tools needed? or is it simply a case of take the cover off, replace gasket and tighten bolts to specified torque settings?
